The Marche has always been in my heart and mind. And this is why the Marche region is recurring in everything he does Stefano Fabrizi who we met for an exchange of words. We remind you that Fabrizi has been retired since 1 November 2020 Courier Adriatico, historical newspaper of the Marche (and Italy) founded by Luigi Mercantini in 1860. His first article when he was a proofreader, while he was enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine in Ancona: it was January 1976. Since then a lot of ink and, why not, a long road to go and do the services for the " his” newspaper. He left behind a title as head of the Culture and Entertainment department and many valid colleagues.

Before you spoke to us about nostalgia for the Marche, yet you have always lived there.

Yes, it's true, but even though I live there I realize that I still don't know them, that I still miss so many places to visit and so many stories to listen to. Thanks to my profession as a journalist I had the opportunity to visit them far and wide, but they were often quick visits and I lacked the insights that would have allowed me to better understand the cultural, social, historical and architectural fabric of that place. I think this is the only way we can appreciate the many "little pieces" that make up this wonderful region. Now I hope to make up for some of that lost time.

And it is for this reason that he founded one online news organization which is called, coincidentally, infinite brands?

In truth, the first thing I thought was: now that I'm retired, what do I do? Yes, because as the date of "departure" from the world of work and above all from journalism approached, the doubts about the future increased. Then, in a sleepless night (I swear it's true) I dreamed that I was managing a newspaper called infinite brands. Premonitory and revealing dream. So, as soon as I said goodbye to the newspaper, I set off to build this new future of mine. And on June 21, 2021, "my" baby was born.

Why infinite brands?

The name was not a simple "birth": I wanted a single word that contained multiple meanings and multiple inputs: the Marche, obviously, with all its beauties (in every field, both artistic and landscape), a concept that must not end behind just one article, because there must be a "reference" to delving deeper... always. And our Poet helped me in this Leopardi with its Infinite. The two words together were perfect and the unicum was what I wanted: infinite brands, precisely!

And what are the topics he deals with?

I brought my know-how acquired over many years of print journalism to the online newspaper. So the larger space is aimed at Culture and Entertainment with a column for reviews (seen for you). And then there are other sectors that require knowledge and in-depth analysis such as Region, Health and Wellness, Tourism and Food. In short, I have a lot to do.

So a lot of culture. But is it necessary?

Is never enough. I constantly realize that I know little, very little about what surrounds me: places, stories, characters. Sometimes I am surprised (negatively) by the too many gaps I have and in trying to fill them I propose in-depth articles. You can't do without culture, unless you were born in Asia and are a wandering shepherd (quoting Leopardi): the flock sleeps, man suffers, but is the flock's happiness true? Therefore, the hymn to knowledge must always be kept in mind from the moment one gets up in the morning: it is not necessary to know things like scientists, just observe and try to understand what surrounds us. Oh God, I'm making this long, but this is the concept that drives me.

What do you like about your region?

First of all the landscapes: writers, poets and painters were enchanted by seeing the images flow during any journey: Yes any because there is no itinerary that can boast of being better: each one has something unique whether you cross it from the north to the south or vice versa and then according to the angle of the light of the sun or the… moon. It is no coincidence that the Marche was the homeland of Leopardi, but also of Raffaello, Rossini, Pergolesi e Twine just to name a few.

And then the countries with the 100 theaters: there is no other region that in such a small area (if we consider that we are just over one and a half million inhabitants) can boast such architectural richness. Walking around some streets you can still feel the history. And the evidence of continuous archaeological discoveries demonstrates a widespread vitality over time. And to close the circle, the dialects: inflection and words change within just a few kilometres.

And what don't you like?

Its isolation in transport. Over the years, mistakes have been made in the road system that today penalize us: from the railway that runs along the coast and the motorway (with bottlenecks towards the south) which have favored the exodus from the inland areas by isolating them. And the lack of rapid connections with other cities: and we return to talking about railways and motorways, but also the airport which has been at a standstill for some time.

With your journalistic work, when you were in the press, you made the Marche known. Do you think it is still possible to give a different meaning to our places and our culture? Can it be a driving and strategic factor?

Absolutely yes. Culture and with it tourism and food can also give a very important boost to the economy of the Marche region. Investing in these sectors has an incredible return and our administrators should be aware of this, I hope.

In over 40 years of cultural journalism, do you notice any differences compared to the beginning of your career?

Everything, or almost. Starting with technology. When I set foot in the editorial office of Corriere Adriatico (it was 1975) there were linotypes: you could breathe lead in the literal sense of the word. And the rotary press was gigantic. Then, gradually, the technological evolution, up to the mobile phones with which today you can do everything. And with this revolution, the approaches to news have changed: in fact, paper suffers (quite a bit) from the immediacy of online news. If on the one hand this is a good thing, on the other there are many, many pitfalls: in order to chase the previously published news, the sources are not checked and an avalanche of fake, wrong news, if not even designed to cause a bad news, is published. information. This is why it is important that a journalist proposes the news and that we turn to that site for correct information. The web has become a jungle that is sometimes dangerous if not in the hands of the little ones.

Foreigners are increasing and many have renovated houses to live in. What do you think of this phenomenon and above all how can we enhance this value-added presence?

The phenomenon has been ongoing for several decades. At first it was the Germans, then the English, now it's a fairly heterogeneous arrival. That they come, that they recover abandoned farmhouses and that we make the Marche known to others is certainly a good thing. The economy also benefits.

Living in the Marche: why didn't he leave?

There were times when to make a career leap I had opportunities to go either to Rome or Milan. But I always preferred to stay. I don't have the nature of a metropolitan man. Big cities have never fascinated me. And where I live, for me it certainly remains the most beautiful place that exists. And, as I said before, I still have so much to discover about the Marche.
